Just a reminder...

When was the last time you checked your credit report? You can get a free report every 12 months from each of the big three companies. Go to www.annualcreditreport.com to get your report. If you get one report at a time you can check your report three times a year for free.

Checking your credit report is one of those things everyone should do periodically, like checking the air in their tires (you check the air in your tires, right?).

  1. That's funny - I just did this on Friday. Great minds . . .

It's definitely nice to know that nothing has been reported incorrectly.

  2. I'm glad you're promoting annualcreditreport.com! I've had clients use them and they are great! freecreditreport.com on the other hand stinks! They make you sign up for their $12.95 a month program (or whatever it is) and then keep charging your debit card. I can't tell you how many affidavits I've filled out from them!

I'm weird- I love looking at credit reports!:)

  3. I last checked mine a few months ago. It will be time soon to check again. Now if I could only remember which agency's report I pulled last time!

  4. I "lucked" out. My mortgage company had an information leak so offered everyone two years of free credit monitoring. I see my score every month and can pull a report once a month. I don't like the privacy leak, but the seeing my score each month is rather nice.

  5. @frugal cpa - It is especially nice to know about inaccurate reporting in time to get it fixed before doing something big, like buying a house.

@Mrs. Money - freecreditreport does stink. Their advertising is so good though, I have a hard time remembering the name of annualcreditreport. Now that it is in a post on my blog I can reference it when I forget.

@Miss M - I have a hard time remembering, too. That's why I save a copy in my file for creditcard statements. I can just look at the date on the statement.

@Dawn - It's great that you see the silver lining for your situation!
